Description	:	John Melvin, fifth child of Jacob and Elmira Hoobler, was born January 24, 1875 at Streator, Illinois, and passed away at his home in Taylor, Neb. Sept. 13, 1955 at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 20 days. When he was two years old his family moved to St. Marys, Kansas where he grew to manhood. Read More	John Melvin, fifth child of Jacob and Elmira Hoobler, was born January 24, 1875 at Streator, Illinois, and passed away at his home in Taylor, Neb. Sept. 13, 1955 at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 20 days. When he was two years old his family moved to St. Marys, Kansas where he grew to manhood. On August 29, 1897, he took as his bride Miss Trissa Saville, and one son, Francis, was born to them. When the child was just ten months old, the mother passed away, and John took his baby son and went home with his parents. In 1902, the Hoobler family moved to a ranch in West Loup County, and on this ranch and an adjoining farm, John made his home for 42 years. He was married to Miss Pearl McCallum on Oct. 6, 1909 and to this union five children were born, one dying in infancy. In 1945, John and Mrs. Hoobler retired from the ranch and moved to Taylor where they maintained a dairy until March 1955, when injuries suffered in a fall in his home in Oct.1954 forced complete retirement. He was preceded in death by his son Francis in 1922, and a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Drake, in 1946. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Pearl, two sons, Roy of Harrison, Ark., and Ray of Milburn, Neb., one daughter, Mrs. Elva Ralls, Almeria, Neb, two sisters, Mrs. Myrtie Ramsey and Mrs. Mabel McCleery both of Canadian, Tex., four brothers, Frank of Broken Bow, George of Lincoln, Ezra of Eureka, Kansas, and Clarence of Canadian, Texas; 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Taylor with Rev. R. P. Boyer officiating. Rev and Mrs. Boyer sang, accompanied by Mrs. A. F. Alder. Pallbearers were Roy Alder, Jim Rails, Fred Dunbar, Fred Moninger, Oscar Anderson, and Harvey Howard. Interment was in Moulton Cemetery. Friends and relatives coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hoobler, Rex and Marilyn, Harrison, Ark., Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hoobler and Bud, Mrs. Myrtie Ramsey and Mrs. Mabel McCleery all of Canadian, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hoobler St. Marys, Ks., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hoobler, Eureka, Ks., Mr. and Mrs. Abe Duryea, Alliance, Neb., Mr. Mark Dunbar, Olerichs, So.
