Description	:	Oldest son of John Robert McKellar and Martha E. "Mattie" Miller, John Miller McKellar was born and raised in Greenwood County SC. As did his father before him, John went off to serve his country in war with Spain in 1898. Records from the National Archives show he enlisted May 3 1898 and served to Nov 10 1898 in Co AI SC Infantry. He later applied for and drew a pension for his military service on Jan 29 1926. They set up housekeeping and John went to work in the ensuing years at a number of jobs. By 1910, he was farming when his widowed father, John Robert McKellar, came to live with him and Fannie until his death in 1913. By 1920 John had changed jobs again and became a truck driver, and by 1930 he listed himself as doing odd jobs on that year's census record. There are no records of John and Fannie ever having children. He died in 1948 and she lived on until 1974. They are both buried in the county in which they lived and died.
