Summers 11 He was the son of John and Anne Summers. On August 13, 1863, he married Martha Pumphrey. ohn Milton Summers married second to Mrs. Elizabeth Matilda (nee Wiley) Hinshaw, widow of Andrew Hinshaw on 18 December 1906 in Tipton County, Indiana. [See attached marriage record. ash] J Milton Summers was born in Delaware county in 1841, being the son of Dr. John Summers and wife. The father for a time practiced medicine in Henry county and later removed to this section. J. Milton, the son, often recalled the trip through in a wagon. His father was the first physician to locate in the town of Jerome, northeast of Windfall, where they resided nine years and later removed to Nevada, this county where the father conducted a store along with his practice. The father died in 1884. In 1862, J. Milton summers enlisted in the 54th Indiana Regiment, serving but a short time, when he was discharged on account of sickness, and returned to Nevada where, in 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Pumphrey, whose death occurred several years ago. J. Milton died at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clara Summers, widow of the late L.D. Summers in Goldsmith. J. Milton was 87, a pioneer of the county and one of the few remaining Civil War veterans. He died of complications incident to his advanced age. Surviving is a son John C. Summers, and Mrs. Mary A. Legg, she being the widow of the late W.C. Legg.
