Description	:	Monitor Homesteader Dies At 94 A former member of the North West Mounted Police, John Mitchell, died Saturday in Rimbey. Mr. Mitchell, 94, was a resident of Rimbey for 20 years. Mr. Mitchell was born In Cowrigg Parish of Castle Sower-by, England in 1874. He came to Canada in 1892 and joined the mounted police in Regina. After serving with the mounted police he homesteaded in Manitoba and Saskatchewan until he returned to England in 1906 when he married. Mr. Mitchell was born In Cowrigg Parish of Castle Sower-by, England in 1874. He came to Canada in 1892 and joined the mounted police in Regina. After serving with the mounted police he homesteaded in Manitoba and Saskatchewan until he returned to England in 1906 when he married. The couple returned to Canada in 1914, homesteaded in the Monitor district and farmed until 1940, when Mr. Mitchell retired. They moved to Rimbey in 1948. He is survived by his wife, Jane of Rimbey, five daughters, Mrs. Mary Plank, Mrs. Ethel Muddle, and Mrs. Olive Plumb all of Rimbey, Mrs. Violet Marshall of Edmonton, and Mrs. Margaret Gudin of Red Deer, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeaceased by a son Jack in 1923. Rev. Albert Collier of Red Deer officiated at the funeral services held from the Church of Epiphany at Rimbey today. Interment followed in the Mount Auburn Cemetery at Rimbey. Eventide Funeral Chapels of Lacombe were in charge of arrangements.
