Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," January 15, 1912: AGED RESIDENT DIES OF APOPLEXY JOHN MURRAY, A RESIDENT OF COUNTY FOR FORTY-ONE YEARS, DIED TODAY John Murray, aged 73 years, a respected resident of Wapello county for forty-one years, died of apoplexy this morning at 3 o'clock at the family residence, 521 Ponemah Street. Death came suddenly. Mr. Murray retired in apparent good health last night. About 3 o'clock this morning his wife was awakened by his heavy breathing. She immediately called her daughters. They reached their father just as his life departed. Mr. Murray has lived in Ottumwa for the past two years, coming to the city after a residence of thirty-nine years at Bladensburg. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having been a member of the Sixty-fourth Regiment of the Ohio Volunteers. He was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church and also of the Cloutman Post of the G.A.R. Besides his wife he leaves four children, Miss C. Murray, Mrs. Charles Parker, Miss Josephine Murray, all of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Ingram of Joliet, Ill. Two sisters and three brothers also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the residence, conducted by the Rev. T.W. Jeffrey, pastor of the First M.E. Church. Further services will be held in the Agency Cemetery.
