Son of William Shults and Julia Etta Browning OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, September 17, 1929 MR. JOHN N. SHULTS Mr. John Nicholas Shults, the only son of William and Julietta Shults, was born September 20, 1850, in Upshur county, West Virginia. He lived there with his father until 1865, when the family moved to southern Michigan to make their abode. Unsatisfied with the conditions there, the father, with his family, moved to Blakesburg, Iowa, where they resided about six years. In the spring of 1873, the family moved to Lucas county, where the husband and father lived until his death. On December 10, 1874, John was united in holy wedlock to Miss Eunice Bennett, of Coal Glen. The following day they moved onto the farm where they have made their home ever since. To this union were born three children: William Pearl, Mary Ethel Pierson and Flossie Fern Bingaman. Mr. Shults was a church member almost his entire life and at the time of his death was enrolled in the Coal Glen Methodist Episcopal church. He passed quietly into eternity Tuesday morning, September 10, 1929. He enjoyed fair health up to the minute of his death and his passing came as a shock to all his relatives and friends. Mr. Shults was a man deeply interested in humanity, vitally concerned about his Heavenly Father. For over forty years he served the church faithfully, both financially and by personal service. His religion was more than a mere profession of faith as evidenced by the many deeds of kindness and helpfulness which he rendered unto his friends and neighbors. His passing into eternity will cause many heartaches among his earthly friends who knew him as a kind friend and loving husband and father. Funeral services were held at the Coal Glen M. E. church on Thursday afternoon, September 12, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. W. Held, after which interment took place in the Coal Glen cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
