Never has death visited the community, where this young man was so well known, causing more grief or a more earnest expression of sympathy than in the case of John O'Brien. He was born in Houghton, Mich., June 24, 1865, and removed with his parents to Greenbrier township at an early age. His entire life, except the last ten days, was spent at home. He planned to go to Chicago, and yet his pleasant anticipations for the future were tinged with regret at the thought of leaving home and friends - one in particular whom he held most dear and to her his death is a crushing sorrow. He was delighted with the thought of meeting his brothers Mike and Daniel, who have resided in that city several months, little thinking that they would be called upon to perform the sad mission his sudden death imposed upon them. But they have the consolation of knowing that nothing was left untried that might have brought relief and comfort to their beloved brother, who, bowing meekly to the decree that stilled his loyal heart, felt no fear, no hesitation, no dread, but the calm trust of assurance. The aged parents arrived too late to see their son alive and came back to the desolate home bearing his remains for interment in the pleasant Willow cemetery. They can truly say of the son whose death they mourn, that duty was ever his guide and the family will long feel the impress of that life as fulfilling all the conditions incident to the highest type of respect and love. The hearty friendship he accorded to all is indelibly fixed upon the hearts of the people among whom he lived. The funeral services were held at the Catholic church on Sunday, conducted by Rev Father Murphy, and were attended by a very large gathering of sympathizing friends, who took a last look at the peaceful sleeper in the handsome casket enclosing his remains. Thus has John O'Brien left the scenes and associates of his life, forever, but so amiable was his course towards all and so helpful his example that the influence of his life will always abide in the hearts of his friends.
