He had been missing from his home at 2221 Sixth street since June 28, but his family had not been alarmed thinking he had gone to visit friends in Omaha. The body was found floating in backwater near the south bank of the river several hundred yards east of the former Rotary camp site when it was found by Wallace Chrisman...LeRoy Hansen...and E.E. Champlin...member of the staff at Camp Sheldon, state Y.M.C.A. camp southeast of Columbus. The trio found the body when they were hauling a load of trash from the camp to a dump near the river.... Police were notified from Camp Sheldon and Traffic Officer Ed Nickolite and County Attorney Jesse L. Dougherty drover to the river to investigate. Later Chief of Police Bert Galley and Patrolman Jack Smagasz joined...Officer Smagasz thought he recognized the body, as he knew Olsufka, and the identification was later made by the family. ===== (and a follow-up article) Columbus Telegram July 1935 Convinced that death was due to drowning and that there was no foul play, County Attorney Dougherty, as coroner, decided that an inquest would not be necessary. The body was buried in the Catholic cemetery this morning. Requiem mass will be held at St. Anthony's church early next week, but the time of the service had not been definitely determined today. Thought Visiting in Omaha Mr. Olsufka had left his home on Friday, June 28, members of the family said, but it was thought he had gone to Omaha to visit friends as he had been talking of doing so, and the family had not been alarmed. Consequently, the news of his death came as sudden shock. Mr. Olsufka was born in Poland, but came to the United States and to Columbus while in his 30's (so circa 1890's). He worked for many years as a section man, first for the Union Pacific, then for the Burlington, and then again for the Union Pacific, but did not become eligible for a pension because he had not been long enough in continuous service of one road. Having passed the age limit, he was dropped from the payroll about a month ago. About 24 years ago, he married Mrs. Eva Sock, in Columbus. He is survived by his wife; a step-daughter, Miss Helen Sock, and a son, Edward Olsufka, all at home.
