Read More	Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, May 20, 1971 JOHN ORTNER RITES MAY 17 Last rites were held from St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Monday, May 17, for John Ortner, long time resident of Holyoke, who died Thursday, May 13, 1971. Rosary services were held Sunday evening at St. Patrick's. He was born February 24, 1896 in Simling, Austria, the son of Josef and Josefa Lehner Ortner. He came to this country as a young man of 16 years. Mr. Ortner arrived at Galveston, Texas on December 15, 1913. From there he traveled to Cedar Rapids, Nebraska where he worked as a farm hand for six years. During this time he learned the English language and became familiar with the customs of the American people. He met and later married Mary Medinger in 1919. They then moved to Colorado in 1920 to begin a life of farming. Eight children, three boys and five girls, were born to this union. In 1956 he was married to Lida Ellen Hadachek. They made their home between Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona and Holyoke. Mr. Ortner had a deep appreciation of his American citizenship and made many positive contributions to express this gratitude. His pioneering spirit and courage were outstanding characteristics. He was an active member of St. Patrick's parish. He was preceded in death by an infant son, his wife Mary, in 1945, his brother Frank in 1968, and his brother Michael in 1969. He is survived by his wife Lida; his sons, Joseph and John R.; his daughters, Margaret, Marie Catherine, Dorothy and Helen; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Mittermayr of Linz, Austria and Mrs. Mary Steinbick of Engerwitsdorf, Austria; two step-sons, Gene and Claire Hadachek, 38 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Out of town relatives in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John R. Ortner and sons of Broomfield, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rader of Alpine, California, Mrs. Ernest Augustenborg and children of Colorado Springs, Sister Dorothy Ortner of St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hadachek and children of Vona, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Hadachek of Rifle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles White of Kingsley, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Medinger, Rising City, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Medinger of David City, Nebraska, Mrs. Grace Vernon of Sidney, Nebraska, Mrs. Virgil Zwickl of Sidney, Nebraska, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vernon of Kimball, Nebraska. There were a host of friends from out of town including one of his first acquaintances and freinds in America, John Miller from Dalehart, Texas. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
