Early in life they moved to Bartholomew county, Flat rock Township, Indiana. John was married to Drucilla Pearson in 1842. They had four children, Sara Jan, Martha Ann, Daniel and Susan. Divorced April 22, 1852. John and his children moved to Nodaway County, Missouri. May 3, 1855 he started a new family with his marriage to Nancy Linville and their home was just outside what is now the town of Skidmore.... Divorced April 22, 1852. John and his children moved to Nodaway County, Missouri. May 3, 1855 he started a new family with his marriage to Nancy Linville and their home was just outside what is now the town of Skidmore. To this union were born: Martin Cole, Isaac, Eliza Wilson, Stonewall Jackson, and Missouri Isabelli; who died in infancy. Nancy passed away in 1864 as the Civil War was coming to an end. The following year, John married Margaret Gilmore, a widow. Their family was: Alice, John, George, Carrie Tohia, Robert E. and Joseph E (twins), Henry, Elmer, Kathe Ann and Fred. (The twins died in infancy). A few days after the birth of Fred, Margaret Owens passed away, Aug. 23, 1879, a much loved and respected woman of the Skidmore community. She was a member of the Christian Church. Carries life ended in tragedy when a candle caught her clothes on fire in March 1881, at the age of nine. Two years later, Lucinda Linville married John Owens and became mother to an already large family. To this union were born William Clarence, Clene Lee, Lydia Maude, Maggie, Francis Dallas, and Eddie, who died in infancy. All this large family was raised in the Skidmore community. Mr. Owens was well known for his kindness and generosity to those in need. His farm was large and well kept. Fenced in Osage Hedge, trimmed to a height of three feet, his farm once won a prize for the best kept farm in Nodaway county. He was a Mason. He served as Superintendent of School, 1867-1869. His life ended in tragedy at the age of 78, when he was struck by a train while walking home from Skidmore, along the track, as was his custom. The date was July 10, 1895. Mr. Owens, his last three wives and some of his children are at rest at Groves Cemetery, Graham. He is survived today by one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Cook, Maryville, and many, many other descendants."
