Elbert was born in Champaign County, Illinois, the 12th day of January, 1863. After a long and serious illness he passed away at his home in Dunlap, the 30th day of September, 1924. Elbert was born in Champaign County, Illinois, the 12th day of January, 1863. After a long and serious illness he passed away at his home in Dunlap, the 30th day of September, 1924. He had reached the age of 61 years, 8 months and 18 days. He came with his parents to Dunlap in 1880, and has continuously resided here since that time. He married Miss Nellie Rosenbaugh on the 24th day of December, 1892. To this union were born five children, four of whom died in infancy, leaving them an only daughter, Mrs. Floyd Flynn of this city. Mr. Elbert was in the undertaking business, first as a partner of H. E. Pease, later conducting the business for himself. He took interest in all progressive measures for the good of the city in which he lived. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Modern Woodmen of America. Early in life Mr. Elbert united with the church, however he permitted his membership to lapse until recently when the Reverend Ellis, his pastor, was permitted to lead him to take upon himself the vows which renewed his relationship and brought him that sweet Christian faith which was a great source of comfort and help to him during his illness. Besides his wife and daughter and two grand-children, there remain only two brothers, Mr. Bailey Elbert, of this city and William Elbert of McPherson, Kansas. He has left his body of clay, all worn out with disease and age, and exchanged it for that spiritual body promised to all believers in Christ as Savious, a body that abideth forever. Services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church on Friday, October 3, at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Benj. Van Dyke, the present pastor, preaching the sermon. After the services the remains were taken to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery for interment.
