Description	:	S/O Earl & Lena Brenton. He attended the Lapland School and Eureka High School and worked on the family farm until he joined the US Army at the end of WW II. He served in the 11th Airborne Division during the occupation of Japan. He then returned to Eureka where he worked for Straight Motor Company before joining the Kansas National Guard full time in 1948. He served in the National Guard for 38 years in various capacities at Eureka, Abilene, Manhattan and Topeka. In 1961, he was recalled to active duty at Fort Riley during the Berlin Crisis. He... He served in the National Guard for 38 years in various capacities at Eureka, Abilene, Manhattan and Topeka. In 1961, he was recalled to active duty at Fort Riley during the Berlin Crisis. He retired from the National Guard with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 in September of 1983. He was an avid mechanic, and all around handyman for family and friends. He was also active in his community and church, and spent considerable time helping raise his grandchildren. He married Mary Jane Brenton on June 3, 1945 in Eureka. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2003. He was also preceded in death b two sisters, Alta Keith and Lola Bailey; and three brothers, George, Frank and Charles (Chig) Brenton. Survivors include sons, James A. & wife Athanasia of Olathe, Ronald E. & wife Patty of Lawrence; daughters, Tamara J. Taylor & husband Gregg of Salina, Sandra K. Stroud & husband Lyle of Topeka; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Brenton will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 that evening. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment 3 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE.
