Richard Peterson, of the Iowa Highway Patrol, said Patrick was headed north on a gravel road, failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the side of an east-bound car. Ronnie D. Myers, 20 of Lovilia, driver of the east-bound car, escaped injury as did his two passengers. Both vehicles were described as total losses. Funeral services for Patrick will be Monday at 10 a.m. conducted by Father John Martin and Father Charles Mannhardt at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Oskloosa. The rosary will be recited Sunday at 7:70 p.m. at the Garland Chapel, Oskaloosa. Patrick was born July 9, 1891, in Mahaska County(In Excelsior, an old mining town) the son of John and Anna Yarkosky(They forgot to add Patrick). He is survived by his wife; three sons, John Jr., of Albia, Elmer of Cedar Rapids,and Stanley of Bussey; a daughter Mrs. Herman (Eva) Scott of Eddyville; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildrn and five sisters. Mrs. Mary Secock, Highland Ind.; Mrs. Anna Staseck of Scio Ore., Mrs. Emma Dixon of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Helen Johnston of Rexburg, Idaho and Mrs. Verna Bohmont of Wheatland, Wyo. 29 Feb 2012: The above report from the Highway patrol was biased-the driver of the other car was under the influence, and was driving at a very high rate of speed by the way my Grandfather's car looked. My Grandfather was HIT in the side of his car and the car was thrown across the road into the right hand ditch across the intersection. Grandma Patrick said they had stopped and looked and started to crossing when they were hit in the side. It was her word against three. She tried to save Grandpa with mouth to mouth breathing-was very upset she couldn't save him. I was told the seat belt killed Grandpa (Very cautious driver who drove all over the USA) and saved Grandma when they were thrown in the ditch and landed on the right side of the car. Terrible loss to all of us. They were to leave for annual trip to Apache Junction Az for the winter the next day. Had been to Thanksgiving Day lunch at his son Junior's.
