Description	:	Co C 65th Ill Vol Inf John Paul Jones was born June 18, 1845 in Chautauqua county, NY and died at his home in Marquette, Nebr., June 6, 1923. Having attained the age of 77 years, 11 month and 18 days. When but 16 years of age he enlisted in Company C, 65th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Read More	Co C 65th Ill Vol Inf John Paul Jones was born June 18, 1845 in Chautauqua county, NY and died at his home in Marquette, Nebr., June 6, 1923. Having attained the age of 77 years, 11 month and 18 days. When but 16 years of age he enlisted in Company C, 65th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He served his country three and a half years and was mustered out at Greensboro, NC. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Young. To this union were born nine children, four of whom died in infancy. Those left to mourn his departure are his bereaved wife, Mrs Mary Jones, four sons, Henry Jones of Groton, SD, Walter and Eldon Jones of Marquette and one daughter, Mrs C S Stephenson of Aurora, Nebr. Also eleven grandchildren and two brothers, one residing in St Louis and the other in California. Mr and Mrs Jones came to this part of Nebraska in 1867 and have since made this their home. Mr Jones was not only a good soldier, but a good civilian and held the respect of the entire community. Nothing he enjoyed more than to relate incidents during his term as a soldier. There now remains but one member of the local GAR post, Dan Fye. Mr Jones and Mr Fye were both present at the Memorial service but two weeks previous. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at 3:15 from the United Brethren Church. Rev Taylor read the 90th Psalm and offered prayer. Rev Henry delivered the sermon, his subject being "The Art of Living." The Seiver-Land quartette sang "Abide With Me" "Far Away Strand" and "Home of the Soul." The flowers were beautiful and in profusion. Walter, Henry, Frank and Eldon Jones, C S Stephenson and Gerald Stephenson were pall bearers. Interment was made in Richland cemetery.
