Mr. Manes was in his usual health until about a week ago, when he was taken suddenly ill. At first it was thought that he had been overcome with the heat, but later the opinion came to be entertained that he had suffered something like a paralytic stroke. Some four or five years ago Mr. Manes was so unfortunate as to fall out of a cherry tree and have a leg fractured, and since then he has been out of the house but little. Mr. Manes was a brother to Mrs. Mary Greer, mother of Wesley and C. M. Greer of this place. He is also survived by his wife and three children. The children are John, who is somewhere in the West; Culbert, who resides at home, and Allie, who is married to David P. Crane of Cecil. Mrs. Manes' maiden name was McMillan, and she is a granddaughter of the Rev. Doctor John McMillan, the pioneer preacher. Mr. Manes was a man who stood high in his community.
