Description	:	The funeral for John R. Conway Sr., 102, of Leeds was held Sat. at 2 p.m. at the Leeds Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery. He died Sept. 30, 1992 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Rev. Margaret Olson officiated. Jeanette Kenner was organist & music was provided by Oleda Fogelson & Ruth Schlieve. Pallbearers were Dennis Follman, Kenneth Follman, James Kleinsasser, John Raymond Conway, Alan Anderson, Roger Conway, Arlen Anderson & David Anderson. Conway was born June 5, 1890 in Leeds to John & Mary Scannell Conway. Following his birth the family homesteaded in 1889 in Leeds Township of Benson County. He was educated at the township school there & attended Denver Business College in Denver, Colo. for a year. He farmed through the years & also worked at several Leeds banks. On June 23, 1918 he married Sophie Maria Offner at Leeds. The couple retired in 1957 & moved to Leeds. She died in Feb. of 1986. He was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church & served more than 65 years as secretary of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator Board. He served on the Agriculture Adjustment Act Board & had served as chairman. He served on the Leeds School Board for 21 years & served on the Federal Land Bank Board for 19 years. He served on the Benson County Social Service Board & on the Leeds Township Board. Survivors include 3 daughters, Irene Poehls of Rugby, Ardys Kleinsasser of Monument, Colo. & Mrs. Sanfrid (Avis) Anderson of Leeds; a son, John R. Conway Jr. of Leeds; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; & a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Doris Follman in 1988; & a brother, William.
