Description	:	John was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted at Osage, Iowa, as a Private on 22 Oct 1861 at the age of 34. Mustered in Co H 4th Iowa Cavalry on 26 Nov 1861. Promoted Full Third Battalion Saddler Sergeant from Co H on 15 Jan 1862. John was wounded and taken prisoner on 11 Oct 1862 at Lick Creek, Arkansas. John died in 1889 at the age of 63 years. - - - - - Suggested edit: I believe John Eddy's parent were Rodolphus Eddy and Mary Ann Roberts. John came west from Ohio with his family including a sister Ruth, and brothers William, Chester, and Thomas. His daughter, Helen, was actually the daughter of his sister, Ruth. She was born a McMurray (Ruth's second husband) and when her husband died and she remarried, she could not keep her, so she went to live with her brother and his wife, Helen. All of the census records list Ruth, and her brothers living in close proximity to each other. Helen's marriage record also lists her mother as Ruth McMurray.
