Service at the house at 2 o’clock. 1931, Wednesday January 28, The Carleton Place Herald front page John Menzies Dies Suddenly The family of Mr John Menzies were shocked to receive the news of his death which occurred very suddenly on Monday, January 26thm at Waterloo, N.Y., presumably of a heart seizure, Mr Menzies was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and was in his 67th year. For many years his home had been in Carleton Place, although his calling had taken him away for quite a time. He was a boss carder here in the Gilles Mill, the Bates & Innes Mill and the Hawthorne Mill in days gone by and for some time had been engaged across the border, latterly at Waterloo, N.Y. He was an member of the Independent Order Foresters for 39 years. Some 46 years ago he married Elizabeth Gibson, of Hespeler, Ont, who survives, with four sons and two daughters. The sons are: William, in Syracuse, N.Y., Robert, in Ottawa; George, in Detroit, and Harry, in Carleton Place. The daughters are: Mrs M.J. Shiels (Bessie), Ottawa, and Mrs C.G. Dowdall, Carleton Place. One brother also survives, George, of Campbellford, and two sisters, Mrs David Bell, Toronto, and Mrs Frank Builder, Dundas. Eight grandchildren also survive. The remains are on the way here and the funeral will take place on Friday afternoon. The family have the deepest sympathy in their sudden bereavement.
