Thomas on Jan. 1, 1873, and they had five children. -------------------------------------------- John R. Pearson, son of William and Margaret Pearson, born on a farm near Springville, Iowa, June 1, 1854, and died near his home near Anamosa, Iowa, March 9, 1918, at the age of 63 years 8 months and 25 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Cynthia Thomas, January 1st, 1873. Mr. Pearson was an honest, upright, Christian gentleman an ideal neighbor, a man who honored his word as he did his God. The night was never too dark or the road too rough and long for him to gladly start out, if by doing so he could be of service to others. As has been said of him, his business was helping others, but he farmed incidentally to pay expenses. He was a profound believer in the saving power of Jesus Christ, having surrendered to His will in the winter of 1904 and united with the Methodist Church on the Viola charge, which membership he held at the time of his death. Mr. Pearson was in seemingly good health, when on the evening of March 5th, he was stricken with apoplexy while engaged in doing the evening chores. He soon became unconscious but lingered till Saturday evening, March 9th, when at 5:30 he went to his reward. He leaves to mourn his loss, his devoted wife, five children, Mrs. B.S. Bailey, Martelle, Iowa, Mrs. E.L. Moore, Onslow, Mrs. A.N. Yenney, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. E.C. Northrup, Anamosa and Leo J. Pearson, Camp Cody, Deming, New Mexico, one granddaughter, Mary Belle Moore, Onslow, Ia., his father William Pearson, Springville, Ia., one brother, L.H. Pearson, Marion, Ia., one sister, Mrs. T.A. Yocum, Madrid, Ia., together with a multitude of friends and relatives. The deceased with his wife acted the part of father and mother toward Joe Byales, who was an orphan boy, shared their counsel and home and who mourns this death as though a real son. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.H. Wyrick of Jesup, Ia., assisted by the local pastor, Rev. J.W. Turner from the M.E. Church at Springville. Mr. Pearson will be greatly missed. Those who knew him best loved him most and that which closed for him the gates of time opened for him the gates of Heaven and brings nearer and makes more real to us the unseen world and the life beyond the tomb. -obituary, Anamosa [Ia.] Journal (Mar. 21, 1918)
