His niece Lucy was also married to Margaret's nephew John. -------------------------------------------- Pioneer of Linn County Dies at Marion at Age of Ninety-One Years William Pearson, one of the oldest pioneers in Linn county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Aleatha Yocom, in Marion, early today. Mr. Pearson was 91 years old last Friday. Sunday he suffered a stroke of paralysis and he never regained consciousness. Mrs. Pearson, who died in 1909, was Margaret Penn, a descendant of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. The picnic which was to be held today by the families who trace their ancestry back to the English Quaker, has been indefinitely postponed. Mr. and Mrs. Pearson were married in Ohio in 1853, and came to Iowa in a covered wagon. They first stopped in Cedar county but soon took up their residence on a farm near Springville and for forty-one years, Mr. Pearson was a successful farmer. He then retired and the family moved to Springville where Mr. Pearson was a prominent citizen for many years. Having broken many acres of virgin soil in Linn county, he devoted his attention to the upbuilding of the community which he helped to found in his youth. He was one of the leading members of the Springville Methodist church serving as superintendent of the Sunday school for twenty five years as trustee for many years, and steward for half a century. In 1909 Mrs. Pearson died, and recently Mr. Pearson had been living with his daughter in Marion. Mr. Pearson was born in Morgan county, Ohio, June 15, 1832, the son of Jesse and Cynthia Sinclair Pearson. He was the last survivor of a family of eight children. To Mr. and Mrs. Pearson were born three children: John R. who died six years ago, Lafayette Henry of Marion; and Mrs. Cynthia Aleatha Yocom. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the Methodist church at Springville, the Rev. L.D. Stubbs of Kenwood a former pastor of the Methodist church of Springville, who conducted Mrs. Pearson's funeral five years ago being in charge. He will be assisted by the Rev. Earle A.
