Funeral Services, 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 23, 2011, Parks Crossroads Christian Church, Ramseur. Officiating, Rev. Randy Kelley, Rev. James Turner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Brooks attended school in Randolph County and came to know the Lord when he was eleven years old. He was a member of Parks Crossroads Christian Church for many years where he served faithfully as Deacon, a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He served faithfully in World War II in the Army of the European Theater in Patton's 3rd Infantry Division. He served in many battles during the war, most notably, the Battle of the Bulge and was highly decorated for his heroism. He was proud to have been able to serve and protect his country. He was employed by Acme-McCrary Hosiery Mills in Ramseur, for twenty years and Briles Oil Company in Ramseur, for almost 40 years. Mr. Brooks's favorite pastime was fox hunting with his longtime friend Mr. Bob Stout, and watching baseball, football, and basketball on TV. In his later years he was afflicted with Macular Degeneration but he faithfully followed his teams and was proud of each of them. He was preceded in death by his faithful and loving wife of 65 years, Lorene L. Brooks, and his parents, George and Sallie Cox Brooks Caviness, a young son who died at birth, and a young daughter that died at birth, two sisters, Ethel Cooper and Lurline Harris and one brother, James Brooks. Survivors: He is survived by one daughter, Linda Brooks, and husband, Sam, of Ramseur, and one son, Randy L. Brooks, and wife, Sandy, of Ramseur, sisters, Emogene Brooks Phillips, and husband Robie, of Siler City, Frances Caviness Spivey of Bear Creek, brother, George Robert "Bob" Brooks, and wife, Betty, of Siler City, one grandson, Samuel Todd Brooks and wife Kim, of Asheboro, three step-granddaughters, Christy Twiddy and husband Chris of Greenville, Dana Eaves and husband Clint, of Clayton, and Amanda Knighten and husband John, of Burlington, two step-grandsons, Sean Mahaley of Liberty and Kevin Mahaley of Lenoir, eight step-great-grandchildren, Delancey Eaves, Tanner Twiddy, Ashlee Twiddy, Alexander Eaves, Olivia Knighten, Claire Knighten, Jeremy Mahaley and Jordan Mahaley of Burlington, sister in-law, Virginia Layne Anderson and husband Harold, of Morristown TN, two brothers in-law, Leo Layne and his wife Jane, of Asheboro, and Dennis Layne and his wife Ella, of Ramseur. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who all loved him very much. The family would like to thank his doctors and the staff at Randolph Hospital, Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, and Universal Health Care in Ramseur for their tender loving care during his days of sickness.
