Description	:	John "Jack" Raymond Lufborough, age 83, of Miles City passed away Wednesday, July 09, 2008 at his home in Miles City. Jack was born on April 28, 1925 in Miles City, Montana to Ray and Martha (Henton) Lufborough. He was an only child. Jack lived his first eighteen years at Sand Springs, Montana. Jack was born on April 28, 1925 in Miles City, Montana to Ray and Martha (Henton) Lufborough. He was an only child. Jack lived his first eighteen years at Sand Springs, Montana. He attended various grade schools in Garfield County. He graduated from high school in Jordan, Montana in 1943. Jack married Leone Rowton on April 9, 1944. To this union, three sons were born, Don, Lynne and Jerry. He was drafted and entered the Army in October of 1944 at Fort Douglass, Utah. He was in the Infantry and had his training in Camp Fannon, Tyler, Texas. He went overseas in February of 1945. He served in the 33rd Infantry Division in the Philippine Islands and Japan. His division was one of the first to see the damage of the atomic bomb at Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan. He was mustered out of the service as a Staff Sergeant in October of 1946 in Fort Lewis, Washington. He returned to Sand Springs and worked on his dad's sheep ranch for three years. He never lost his interest in working with sheep. He recalls in 1937, he watered a pen of stud horses for the CBC's when he was about 12 years old. One of the youngest to receive a paycheck of $25, the CBC's spent a lot of time at the Ray Lufborough ranch. He loved the ranch life. After moving his family to Jordan in 1949, he worked on various ranch jobs and several other jobs. He was one of the first employees of Mid-Rivers Telephone and McCone Electric Co-op of Circle. He tended bar at the Ranchers Bar, later he and Ray Smith bought the bar. He delivered bulk fuel for Pioneer Garage and managed Jack's Corner Conoco Gas Station for ten years. After living in Jordan for 24 years, he and Leone moved to Miles City in 1973. He worked five years as an "oiler" for road construction and also worked ten years as an "oiler" for Western Energy at Colstrip, retiring in October of 1988. Jack was a life member of the VFW and was a member of the Masons and Eagles. Jack was a cowboy at heart and an avid sports fan and was number one fan of watching his grandchildren compete in sports. Jack is survived by his wife Leone Lufborough of Miles City, MT; two sons: Lynne Lufborough and his wife Viny of Miles City, MT; and Jerry (Michelle Jones and her children Ethan and Chalice) Lufborough of Miles City, MT; two granddaughters, Page and Teal; four grandsons: Damian, Beau, J.D., and Mike; one great granddaughter, four great grandsons and one more great grandson that is due this week. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepmother, June Lufborough, and a son Don. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran's Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.
