PW) ~~~~~~~ Death of J. R. McWilliams The death of J. R. McWilliams occurred Saturday night, November 10th, 1923 at Leonard. His death was caused from cancer of the stomach from which he had been a great sufferer. Mr. McWilliams was born on June 16th, 1851, near Leonard and had been a resident of Shelby County all of his life. He was never married and for many years made his home with his sister, Mrs. Harriet Stuart of Leonard. He was a retired farmer and stockman. He leaves one brother, Jasper McWilliams of Kirksville and one sister, Mrs. Harriet Stuart and other relatives and friends. The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 12th at 2 p.m. at Leonard. Dr. J. A. McWilliams of Bucklin, Mrs. Lon Brown and daughter, Nannie, and Mrs. Emma Eubanks of Triplett, Mo., nephew and nieces of the deceased attended the funeral, arriving in Clarence Monday moring. ~~~~~~~ Shelby County Herald, Shelbyville, Shelby, Missouri, Wednesday, November 14, 1923, page 1. Robert McWilliams Dies at Home in Leonard. John Robert McWilliams, a well known resident of Shelby county, died Sunday morning at his home in Leonard, after an illness of four weeks. He had been in poor health for more than a year, death resulting from cancer of the stomach. Mr. McWilliams was born June 21, 1850, in this county, and resided here all his life with the exception of two years spent in Sheridan county. He was widely known in the county as a buyer and shipper of livestock and had been a resident of Leonard since 1885. He was never married. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Harriet E. Stuart, with whom he made his home, and one brother, Jasper McWilliams, of Kirksville. Seven nephews and nine nieces also survive. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Leonard church, conducted by Rev. F.M. Branic of Shelbyville. Burial was in the Leonard cemetery. (Contributed by Paula D)
