Robert Parrish, 42, woods rider, was crossing Florida Highway 200 in Maxville. As the driver, Jack L. Wilkinson, Maxville cattleman, swerved to avoid him, Parrish jumped directly in his path, eye-witnesses told Patrolmen R. O. Headen and J. R. Durrance. Wilkinson said he was going south on the highway about 30 miles per hour when he hit Parrish. Parrish whose body was thrown up over the hood of the car, apparently died instantly, Headen said. The cattleman was arrested on a technical charge of manslaughter. Justice of the Peace J. A. Beard released him immediately on his own recognizance. Wilkinson told the officer that he had known Parrish all his life. OBITUARY FL Times Union Jacksonville, Duval County, FL 18 Jul 1951 Funeral services for John Robert Parrish, 41, of Maxville, who was killed Thursday night when struck by an auto of Maxville, will be held at 3 pm Sunday in the Long Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. James Strickland officiating. Interment will be in the Long Branch Cemetery under the direction of Key-McCabe Funeral Home. They body will rest at the home of his brother, D. J. Parrish, Maxville from 11 AM today until 2:15 PM Sunday at which time the funeral cortege will leave for Long Branch. Besides his brother, he is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Cora Hodges, Mrs. Esther Hicks and Mrs. Alma Anders of Lawtey; Mrs. Sallie Hogan and Mrs. Gazelle Sweat, Jacksonville, and Mrs. Marion Leigh, San Antonio, TX.
