Read More	OBITUARY THE EDDYVILLE TRIBUNE Eddyville, Iowa Thursday, April 13, 1933 JOHN ROBERTS John Roberts, eldest child of Lorenzo and Anna Curry Roberts, was born in Eddyville, Iowa, January 9, 1849, and passed away peacefully April 7, 1933, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Christina Harding of this city, being at the time of his death approximately 84 years and 3 months of age. His boyhood and early manhood was spent on the home farm at Bridgeport with his parents, who were pioneer settlers of this vicinity. In September 1874, he was united in marriage with Alice Jane Walker at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Walker, at Bluff Creek. After their marriage they located in Douglas county, Colorado, where they resided several years, later returning to Eddyville where the remainder of his life was spent. To this union was born five children, Jessie May, deceased, wife of Reuben Beamer also deceased and Willie, who died in infancy. The three surviving children are Edgar of Crown Point, Ind., Lee of Rattle Snake Butte, Colo., and Mrs. Christina Harding of Eddyville. Also 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren together with a brother, Will, who resides on the home place at Bridgeport and a sister, Mrs. Ida Petty of Albia. His wife, Alice, preceded him in death on December 20, 1923. Mr. Roberts claimed the distinction of being the oldest citizen born in Eddyville and celebrated and greatly enjoyed he 84th birthday surrounded by his family and friends last Jan. 9. With the passing of the deceased not only has the family lost a kind and loving father, but the community is impoverished by the loss of an upright and honorable citizen. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. G. Bohl, pastor of the M. E. church, at the home of his daugther, Mrs. Christina Harding, on Monday afternoon, and interment was made in the family lot at Bridgeport cemetery, under the auspices of the local Masonic Lodge, of which Mr. Roberts had been a member for over 60 years, having joined that organization on May 25, 1873. He lived and died an upright Mason.
