Description	:	John Rockefeller Felter was the son of Nelson and Calphurnia Felter and served his country during the War of the Rebelion as a member of Co. G, 14 Regt., Iowa Infantry. "John Rockefeller Felter was born August 5, 1838 and died of inflammation of the bowels on March 5, 1876. He was married December 22, 1862 to Rebecca Thomas of old Buckingham. Iowa, while on furlough during the War of the Rebellion. They had but one child born September 21, 1869, who is now Clara Morison (wife of Rufus John Morison) and lives in Traer, Iowa. G, 14 Regt., Iowa Infantry. "John Rockefeller Felter was born August 5, 1838 and died of inflammation of the bowels on March 5, 1876. He was married December 22, 1862 to Rebecca Thomas of old Buckingham. Iowa, while on furlough during the War of the Rebellion. They had but one child born September 21, 1869, who is now Clara Morison (wife of Rufus John Morison) and lives in Traer, Iowa. Rebecca died April 15, 1885, aged 44 years, 11 months and 12 days. John learned the carpenter trade and worked at contracting and building quite a good deal. He went to the war in the autumn of 1861 and served for about three years in Company G, 14th Regiment, Iowa Volunteers. He was taken prisoner on the first day of the Battle of Shiloh. Perhaps there is no event in my life that I can recall that happened farther back than when he left home for the war. He played the violin, and, in the old times, when private dances were the usual entertainment in the neighborhood, he was usually the fiddler of the occasion. He had a hesitance in his speech resembling a stutter. He was slight of build, 5 ft. 8 in. tall and weighing perhaps 135 lbs., but was successful as a farmer, carpenter and stock raiser.
