Read More	Howells Journal - Aug 17, 1934 Born in Bohemia, He came here Sixty-One Years ago After many weary months of illness, death claimed the soul of Mr. John Ruzicka on Thursday of last week, the end having come peacefully at his home at this place. He had not been well for some years, and spent some time receiving special treatment in an Omaha hospital some years ago. During his final illness he was given devoted care by his daughter, Mrs. E. F. Novak, who with her brother, Mr Joseph Ruzicka of near Rogers, eight grand children and fourteen great-grand children are his immediate surviving relatives. Mr Ruzicka was 84 years, 1 month and 3 days old at the time of his death, and for 61 years of the 84 he made his home in Colfax Couny. He was born June 27, 1850 at Zestovice(Zvestovice) County, Caslav, Bohemia and at the age of 23 years left the homeland in 1878 and came directly to this section of Nebraska. He was a pioneer of the county, having settled in Maple Creek precinct where he resided until twenty-four years ago. In the years gone by he took active interest in movements that tended to the up building of the community he called his home and was faithful to every duty as a loyal citizen. In 1910 he and his wife, after many years of toil and hardships on the farm, had accumulated a competency and moved to Howells to enjoy their sunset days. Two years lated however, death claimed the wife and he had since continued to live here by himself. He was a gentleman of good habits who over respected the rights of his fellowmen; he lived up rightly in thought and deed and was highly esteemed by all. The funeral services in memory of this aged pioneer were held Saturday afternoon, Rev J. Havlik, pastor at Bethlehem Chapel, having presided at the last rites. The Bethlehem church choir furnished music and there was a large attendence at the services which were held at Zion church after a brief service at the Prucha Funeral home. The casket was covered with a gift of lovely floral tributed and was carried to the tomb by Messrs, Jerry, Joseph and Adolph Ruzicka, Frank Novak, Laddie Kolar and Frank Blazek. The services were beautiful and at their close at the zion church cemetery the remains were laid to rest by the side of the wife to await the resurrection morn.
