Read More	The following was contributed by Lonna Beth 47884651: Obit for John Sampson Thompson 55902878 Obituary of John Samson Thompson Son of Cyrus B. and Sarah M. Thompson Son of Cyrus B. and Sarah M. Thompson, was born in Monroe, Iowa, on January 23, 1870, and passed away at the home of his brother and sister-in-law in Holly, Colorado, early Tuesday morning, June 25, 1940. In 1871 his parents moved to Fairmont, Nebraska. Here he made his home for nearly forty years. In 1894 he was converted in the Methodist church in Fairmont. In April, 1910, he homesteaded a claim near Webb, Colo., making his home with his brother, Charles, with whom he lived until the time of his death. In 1921 he moved with the family to Holly, Colo. Mr. Thompson had been ill several years and had retired from active work. He was very fond of children all his life and took a great interest in his nieces until the very end. During the closing years of his life Mr. Thompson enjoyed recalling memories of pioneer days in Nebraska where, at one time, the family had to haul supplies fifty miles, among the many hardships of pioneering. Until the very last he took a keen interest in the welfare of all his old neighbors and friends. He is survived by his brothers, Charles of Holly, Colo., Fred. H., of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. L.A. Whitten, of Albuquerque, N.M., who was unable to attend the funeral because of ill health. Also seven nieces and a wide circle of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thompson accompanied the body from Holly, arriving here early Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thompson reached Fairmont Thursday evening to meet the funeral party. Mr. Thompson came from New Orleans and Mrs. Thompson came from their Minneapolis home, meeting in Omaha. The body was at Wolford & Son's Mortuary parlor, where friends called between the hours of one to three o'clock p.m. Friday, when it was conveyed to the Fairmont cemetery, where brief services were held by Rev. Robert L. Embree, pastor of Fairmont Methodist church, of which deceased became a member in his early youth. Interment was made in the family plot, where lie also the grandparents and parents. Pallbearers were Jerome Clark, Al Noragon, M.W. Maranello, John Tutty, T.W. Drummond and M.T. Norris. Mr. Norris served in behalf of W.H. Gearhart.
