Description	:	Sarah M. Sterrett was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, on the 18th day of September, 1845, of sturdy stock, which had been resident of that state for almost a century before her birth. On the 4th day of March, 1896, she was united in marriage with Cyrus B. Thompson, also a son of Pennsylvania, and one of her honored veterans of the recent Civil War. Within less than two years after their marriage, these daring young pioneers took up a homestead in Fairmont township, Fillmore county, and became residents of this county on February 27,k 1871. ... Sterrett was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, on the 18th day of September, 1845, of sturdy stock, which had been resident of that state for almost a century before her birth. On the 4th day of March, 1896, she was united in marriage with Cyrus B. Thompson, also a son of Pennsylvania, and one of her honored veterans of the recent Civil War. Within less than two years after their marriage, these daring young pioneers took up a homestead in Fairmont township, Fillmore county, and became residents of this county on February 27,k 1871. This region was new indeed, and advantages few or none at all. Mr. Thompson hauled the material for his new home from Lincoln. Mrs. Thompson was a life long Christian, telling her former pastor the very morning that she died that she had been a Christian for sixty of the sixty-nine years of her life. For some yeas she was a member of the Presbyterian church, but for many years, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was always an ardent supporter of all that the church stood for. The pastor knew if she was absent from service, the cause of that absence was beyond her control. Her Christian character was worthy of emulation and her Christian fortitude was a thing to be coveted. When the writer of these words visited her early in the morning of the day she passed on, she expressed to him her desire to be at rest and at Home with her Master and loved ones who had gone before. Her testimony was that she had set her house in order and was calmly awaiting her summons. Her confidence in her Lord and Master was indeed touching. Altogether, her life and expressed experience will be a benediction both to her children and to all who really knew her. Mrs. Thompson was the mother of seven children, three of whom had gone before her and together with their father awaited her coming. Four children, John S. and Charles D. of Holly, Colorado, Stella L. (Mrs. Lou Whitten) of Fairmont, Nebraska and Fred H. of Sioux City, Iowa, are left to mourn the going of their mother.
