Green departed this life last Sunday morning at St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha and was buried from the residence of his parents in this city, Monday. Green departed this life last Sunday morning at St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha and was buried from the residence of his parents in this city, Monday. On Dec. 5th, he was taken to the hospital in Omaha and ten days later Dr. Allison performed an operation that gave relief for a week, but the disease again returned in a more virulent form. The deceased was born in Scranton, Pa., Febr. 20, 1877 and moved with his parents to Knox county, when two years old. Always of a very rugged constitution, he never knew a days sickness until the dread consumption entered his system. June 28, 1905, he was married to Miss Mary A. Donahue and to this union a son, Hubert Francis, now three months old, was born. An eulogy by a brother, who loved him as life itself would not be fitting, but it is no travesty on truth to say that few young men grow to manhood's estate and have as many firm friends and as few enemies. Very fond of athletics, he was the hero of scores of baseball fields, but his success was never attended with anything savoring of rowdyism. Attacked by this dreadful disease in the early days of November, which would not permit even a spoonful of malted milk to pass through his system, he was reduced from a young giant to a breathing skeleton and yet no word of complaint ever escaped his lips and his patience touched the hearts of doctors and nurses, who are daily in contact with physical distress. Everything that science and love could think of was applied, but his hour had come and he expressed no fear of the approaching Great Beyond. The funeral which was held from the home of his parents was in charge of County Creighton Knights of Columbus and the Creighton Volunteer Fire Department and the procession which was one of the largest ever held in this part of the state was led by the Citizen's Band. A requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Windolph with Rev. Father McNamara of Bloomfield and Rev. Father Petlach of Verdigre in the sanctuary. Father McNamara, a very dear friend of the deceased pronounced the eulogy and a breathless stillness prevailed, while he spoke words of faith, hope and comfort. The floral tributes from the societies were beautiful and a floral chain of eight links with one of the center links broken spoke of the sorrow of the six brothers and a sister. The active pallbearers were the six surviving brothers, while James Reefe, Frank J. Kain, M.C. Theisen, Patrick Reefe, M.J. Wagner and Henry Mecke were chosen as honorary pallbearers from the ranks of the Knights of Columbus. The deceased leaves to mourn his loss, his father, mother, wife and son, six brothers, one sister in Nebraska and an uncle and many cousins in the city of his birth. ...The Creighton Liberal 17 Jan 1908
