Description	:	Jan Slama was born in Tri Studne, Nove Mesto, Moravia, then part of the Austria-Hungary Empire. According to a Czech Family Tree which appears reliable, Jan's parents were Jan and Josefa Laubova. Jan married Josefa Kuncova in 1854 in Tri Studne and they had six children. After Josefa Kuncova's death, Jan married Josefa Havlikova on May 13, 1873 in Tri Studne. According to a Czech Family Tree which appears reliable, Jan's parents were Jan and Josefa Laubova. Jan married Josefa Kuncova in 1854 in Tri Studne and they had six children. After Josefa Kuncova's death, Jan married Josefa Havlikova on May 13, 1873 in Tri Studne. John and Josephine Havlik Slama had two children, the first born in Tri Studne, Moravia and the youngest born in Wilber, Saline County, Nebraska. The Slama family, John and Josephine and seven children, immigrated to America on the ship "Leipzig" to Baltimore in November, 1878 and migrated directly to Nebraska. They were in Wilber in May 1879 when their youngest son was born. Land records of 1886 and 1892 show a John Slama from Tri Studne farming 80 acres near Fairfield in Clay County Nebraska. By this time, this could well be the son John who was married in 1884. The son and many of his family are buried in Fairfield so it is likely he was the John Slama in Clay County. Land records in Saline County have not yet been found for verification of the father, John, having land there but some of the obituaries of his children would indicate he settled in Saline County, perhaps near Crete, for part of his life. Sometime in the 1890s, John and Josephine moved to Omaha where John worked as a smelter according to the 1900 census.
