The father died in this locality and is survived by his wife, who resides in Faribank, Iowa. To their union were born ten children: William, of Franklin township; Gottlieb, who has passed away; Mrs. Annie Seier, of Fayette county; Henry, also of Fayette county; Mrs. Mary Dereding, of Maxfield township; Herman, of Franklin township; Mrs. Carolina Schold, of Maxfield township; Fred, a resident of Dayton township; John, of this review; and Louis, deceased. John Staack has been a resident of Maxfield township during his entire life. Following the completion of his studies in the district schools he turned his attention to farming, and with the exception of two years, during which he worked at the carpenter's trade, he has been engaged continuously in agricultural pursuits. He owns one hundred and forty acres of land in Maxfield township, upon which there are good improvements, and under his capable management this has become one of the most attractive and valuable farms in the community. On the 1st of July, 1907, Mr. Staack married Miss Johanna Klenzman, who was born in this township July 22, 1888, and who has remained a continuous resident since that time. She is a daughter of John K. and Johanna (Boid) Klenzman, natives of Germany, now residing in Franklin township. In their family were three children: Mrs. Staack, wife of the subject of this review; Herman, of Franklin township; and Otto, also of Franklin township. Mr. and Mrs. Staack have become the parents of three children: Leo, born April 3, 1909; a son, deceased; and Paul, born March 6, 1912. The parents are members of the Klinger German Evangelical Lutheran church, and Mr. Staack is affiliated with the democratic party. He is a young man of energy, ambition and enterprise and his future, judged by his past, will be successful and filled with important accomplishments.
