Description	:	From "Where the Wheatlands Meet the Range" John Stevenson was born in Scotland in 1830, and decided to come to Canada in 1848, settling first in Ontario. He married Mary Cornwall in 1857, and to this union were born fourteen children. His wife and two children passed away while they were living in Ontario. Read More	From "Where the Wheatlands Meet the Range" John Stevenson was born in Scotland in 1830, and decided to come to Canada in 1848, settling first in Ontario. He married Mary Cornwall in 1857, and to this union were born fourteen children. His wife and two children passed away while they were living in Ontario. In 1895, he and four of his sons, John, William, Archilbald and Robert decided to come to Alberta. They drove overland arriving at Fort Macleod in the spring of the year, after a hazardous trip. John Sr. was a staunch Presbyterian, and could speak and sing in the Gaelic Language. The first year they lived in the Spring Point area, then settled on Willow Creak about seven miles south west of Claresholm. He homesteaded a quarter of land, built a log cabin and took up farming. Eight of the family settled in the Willow Creek area-John Jr., William, Richard, Alexander, Robert, Mary (Mrs. A.N. Brown) and Malcolm. John Sr. passed away at the age of 88 years, but had taken a great pride in seeing the country develop from a prairie to successful farming district. As a group the Stevensons were the first farmers to ship a carload of grain from Claresholm. Missing from his 14 children are 1. Alexander who is buried in Claresholm cemetery and shares a headstone with his wife Frances Mary (Johnston) Stevenson...but there is no memorial made for him yet to link to. 2. James who was born 3 Dec. 1865. He died while going to Texas from Ontario, or from Texas to Oregon. We don't even know if he had an official burial or if there was a death record made for him. 3. Allen born 10 Aug. 1879 . He died at the age of 9 on 9 Nov. 1888 and is buried in Weston Cemtery in Umatilla County, Oregon...but no memorial has been made for him yet. 2. Alexander Stevenson 1868-1933 and his wife Frances Mary Johnston Stevenson 1875-1941 are buried in the Claresholm Cemetery in Alberta, but there is not a Find a Grave Memorial made for them. Could you rectify this missing link? 3. Alan Stevenson 1879-1888 is buried in the Weston Cemtery in Umatilla County, Oregon. His death shows some of the migration of the family...his father's sister, Jennie Stevenson Walker (1822-1887)and also his sister, Jennie Stevenson Walker (1862-1927)settled there in Oregon. It is confusing that both his aunt and his sister share the same name, but his sister married his aunt's son, a cousin marriage, and that is how they ended up with the exact same name. 4. There was a son named James Stevenson who was born in 1865 and the family story is that he died in route from Canada to Texas. I believe this occured on the same trip that is described in the bio of Alton Newton Brown's bio that took place in 1884. (Mary Margaret Stevenson's husband) 5. & 6. Sarah Ann Stevenson 1858-1872 and Malcolm Stevenson 1870-1870 (he being the first son of that name in the family, and the next son that was born was again given the name Malcolm, born 1871)are both buried with their mother in Christ Church Anglican Cemtery in Mulmur/Whitfield, Ontario....but no Find a Grave Memorial has been made for them as of yet.
