"Johnny" Johnstone, age 83, passed on to meet our Lord, Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Dahl Memorial Health Care in Ekalaka, MT. Johnny was born October 16, 1924, to Jimmy and Inga Johnstone, the youngest of four children. Johnny was born at the family ranch on Spring Creek. Shortly after Johnny was born the family moved to a farm near Medicine Rocks, where they lived for two years, before returning to the family ranch. At this time Johnny's parents began raising sheep. They operated the sheep business until 1945 when they sold the sheep and started to a herd of Hereford cattle. Now Johnny was a cowboy. Most of the socializing at this time was neighborhood country-dances, many of which were held at the Spring Creek School house. It was at one of these dances that Johnny would meet the love of his live Dorothy Burdick. Johnny and Dorothy were married on November 15, 1945. They made their home on part of the Johnstone ranch. In the next few years their four children were born. Johnny loved the ranch life, raising cattle, especially his longhorns, working with horses, and all other tasked that it took to run a ranch. Johnny took pride in owning some good horses. Some of his favorites were named, "Bunny", "Lilly", "Partner", and "Paco". Johnny and Dorothy moved from the ranch to Ekalaka in 1998. Johnny enjoyed life, his family and friends. All his grand children were so dear to him, he was proud of each and every one of them. One of Johnny's biggest joys was to Bar-B-Q a big family meal on his grill for a picnic feast. We all had so much fun. Johnny was a member of the Ekalaka Bible Church. His church family meant so much to him as did all of his family and friends. Johnny is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, his three sons, Don (Ginger) Johnstone of Powderville, Ken (Nellie) Johnstone of Broadus, Dave (Alice) Johnstone of Ekalaka, and his daughter Sandi (Ray) Kirkwood of Ekalaka, his brother Bill (Pete) Johnstone of Ekalaka, 4 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren, and 1 step great grandson, a niece, Margie (Tom) Blair, 2 nephews Jim (Lois) Johnstone and Bart (Maralee) Burdick. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, his sister Sarah, and a brother in-law Harold Burdick. Johnny, a loving husband, a giving Dad, a grand grandfather, a best friend, and without a doubt a true cowboy, we shall miss him dearly.
