Description	:	There is a marriage record for John T. Henness to Rachel C. Mace on December 19, 1877, in Wapello County, Iowa. I believe this is for this man, as his obituary, which I have transcribed below, names a surviving son Walter Henness, of Yakima, Washington. The Washington State Death Record gives the maiden name of Walter's mother as Mace. However, the Social Security Application and Claims Index gives his mother's name as Kate Mason. Mace on December 19, 1877, in Wapello County, Iowa. I believe this is for this man, as his obituary, which I have transcribed below, names a surviving son Walter Henness, of Yakima, Washington. The Washington State Death Record gives the maiden name of Walter's mother as Mace. However, the Social Security Application and Claims Index gives his mother's name as Kate Mason. I can find no marriage record for John Thomas Henness to a Kate Mason. In the 1880 Census for Ottumwa, Iowa, enumerated June 2, John T. Henness, age 21 was living with his mother, Sarah A. Henness, and his brother, William F. Henness. His marital status in that census was marked both in the single and married columns, but the mark does look darker and thicker in the married column. In the 1885 Census for Ottumwa, enumerated January 1, John T. Henness, widowed, was still living with his mother and brother, and John W. Henness, age 3, was living with them also. I believe the 3-year-old John W. Henness was John T.'s son John Walter. On August 22, 1885, T.J. Hennis [sic], son of Walter and Sarah (Halsey) Hennis, was married to Hattie McWright, in Ottumwa, Iowa. This was shown as his second marriage. (His initials have been correctly transcribed in familysearch.org. In ancestry.com, they have been transcribed as J.F. Hennis. By looking at the actual record, it may be seen that the initials used were actually J.T. On Dec. 2, 1887, Hattie McWright Hennis was remarried to Edward Robertson. John Thomas Henness was married to Rebecca L. Longcor on June 14, 1888, in Wapello County, Iowa. This was shown as John's third marriage. --------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," February 24, 1942: Resident Of Ottumwa 72 Years Is Dead Thomas Henness, 82, died at his home on Columbus street at 2:12 a.m. Monday. The son of Walter and Sarah Ann Henness, he was born in Wapello county April 17, 1859. He lived in Ottumwa for 72 years. Surviving are a son, Walter Henness, Yakima, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Cox, Des Moines; Mrs. Laura Foreman, Chicago, and Mrs. Ina Asbury, Ottumwa. Also surviving are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body is at the Johnson funeral home awaiting completion of funeral arrangements. --------------- Funeral Notice From "Ottumwa Courier," February 24, 1942: Funeral services for Thomas Henness, 82, of Columbus street, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Johnson funeral chapel, with the Rev. L.E. Welshons of the First Church of the Open Bible in charge. Burial will be in the McIntyre [sic] cemetery.
