Description	:	John T. Comer, 98, Holcomb, Missouri, formerly of Union and Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at National Health Care in Kennett, Missouri. John was born September 30, 1919, in Excelsior, Missouri, the son of Henry Alford Comer and Iola (Gabriel) Comer. He was united in marriage on January 31, 1942, in Versailles, Missouri, to Ethel I. John was born September 30, 1919, in Excelsior, Missouri, the son of Henry Alford Comer and Iola (Gabriel) Comer. He was united in marriage on January 31, 1942, in Versailles, Missouri, to Ethel I. Gish. Ethel preceded him in death on April 18, 2006, after 64 years of marriage. John was a World War II veteran, serving his country in the United States Army Air Force from September 30, 1942, to December 4, 1945, was honorably discharged and was the recipient of several medals. John worked at the California Pants and Jacket Factory, and later worked as an insurance agent for Reliable Life Insurance Company. After moving to Union, he and his wife owned and operated Family Shoe Store for 15 years, and was actively involved in the Union Chamber of Commerce at that time. After retiring in 1982, John and Ethel spent many hours working in their yard and took pride in their rose gardens. John enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, gardening, woodworking and most of all, spending time with family. John was an elder, deacon and board member while attending the First Christian Church in Union. John is survived by one daughter, Debra Ann Baird and husband Dan, Holcomb; one son-in-law, Robert Strobel, Russellville; one sister, Lucille Barbour, Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Tammy Siebert and husband Rick, Jefferson City, Sandra Wyss and husband Bradley, Russellville, Brian Baird and wife Jennifer, Clarkton, and Kristin Peachey and husband Adam, Jackson, Tennessee; and eight great-grandchildren, Bethany Siebert, Willard, Joshua Wyss, Hopkins, Minnesota, Nathan Siebert, Jefferson City, Kayla Wyss, Russellville, Lauren Baird and Logan Baird, Clarkton, and Emily Peachey and Katie Peachey, Jackson, Tennessee. John is preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Kay Strobel, and infant daughter Jean Ellen Comer; three brothers, Ralph Comer, Oscar Henry Comer and Lloyd Comer; and three sisters, Irene Scott, Lula Mae Foxworthy and Margaret Gish. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home in California, Missouri. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Andrews of Kennett, Missouri. Burial will be in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to the Tipton Masonic Cemetery c/o the funeral home at 100 S.Oak Street, California, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, Missouri.
