Read More	Highland Recorder September 8, 1916 DEATH OF AGED CITIZEN On Thursday afternoon, August 31, just after the Recorder had gone to press, the death of John Trimble was announced from his home near Monterey. Mr. Trimble was one of the oldest citizens of the county and a life long resident of this community. Had he lived until Sunday he would have been 93 years of age, having been born in the year 1823. He was a son of the late William Trimble and the last surviving member of that family, save one, Mrs. Mary A. Sipe, of Staunton, who at the time, was visiting relatives here and was privileged to see her brother during his last illness. Mr. Trimble is survived by three children, Dr. I.H. Trimble, of Staunton, Mrs. M.K. Fleisher, of Monterey, and Mrs. G.W. Hevener, of Waynesboro. Since the death of his wife, who was a Miss. Harper, he had resided most of the time with his grandson, Edwin Hevener, at the old Trimble home just east of town, where he had spent many happy, prosperous years, and where, a few years previous to Mrs. Trimble's death, they celebrated their golden wedding. Until very late in life Mr. Trimble retained much of his energy and vigor, but retired from active life a number of years ago. By his industry and good management he accumulated a large estate, being one of the most extensive land-owners and cattle grazers in the county. Soon after the war he went into the mercantile business here with the late W.M. Chew as a partner, and in connection with the home store at Monterey, operated a number of branch houses in the county. Mr. Trimble was a public spirited citizen, progressive and enterprising, and during his earlier life was prominently identified with county affairs. He had long been a member of the Presbyterian church, and for several years a ruling elder. He was also a charter member of Highland Lodge of Masons, attending a communication last fall, although too feeble to reach the lodge room without assistance. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday morning, by Rev. Mr. Moffett, of the McDowell Presbyterian church, assist by Rev. J.C. Thrasher, of the Methodist church, after which he was buried with Masonic honors, interment being in Monterey cemetery. Son of James & Catherine Trimble. P. 333 Vital Records of Highland.
