Description	:	John Ulrich Hofer was born in Switzerland, county of Berne, November 19, 1820. Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Baertsch, in Downs, Kansas, February 23, 1898. He was 78 years, 4 mo. and 4 days old. He came to America in the year 1847 and settled in Holmes county, Ohio; from there he moved to Indiana. In the year 1855, under the ministry of J. Fox, he was happily converted to the Lord Jesus Christ, and became a devoted follower of the blessed Savior and remained faithful until death. From Indiana he went... Read More	John Ulrich Hofer was born in Switzerland, county of Berne, November 19, 1820. Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Baertsch, in Downs, Kansas, February 23, 1898. He was 78 years, 4 mo. and 4 days old. He came to America in the year 1847 and settled in Holmes county, Ohio; from there he moved to Indiana. In the year 1855, under the ministry of J. Fox, he was happily converted to the Lord Jesus Christ, and became a devoted follower of the blessed Savior and remained faithful until death. From Indiana he went to Nebraska and then to Osborne County, Kansas, in 1883, where he has lived a faithful, devoted Christian life. He was a member of the Evangelical church. From the time of his conversion his mental powers were impaired, and he was perfectly resigned in his sufferings. He was anxiously waiting the summons of his Lord and Master to come up higher. He was married in 1849 to Anna Barbara Mosiman, who preceded him to the other shore two years ago. He leaves four children, one brother, one step sister, two sons, two daughters, 32 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren to mourn his departure. Services were held last Friday morning at the M. E. church. Rev. L. E. Beecher preached in German, Rev. W. L. Cannon in English. From the Downs Times (Downs, Kansas), Thursday, March 3, 1898.
