Description	:	John Vernon, a pioneer resident of this vicinity, a resident of the state since 1858, passed away at the family residence in the Fifth ward, this city, at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, at the advanced age of 77 years, 7 months and 16 days. John Vernon was a native of Ohio, having been born in Muskingum County, that state, July 29, 1825. March 28, 1850, he was married to Miss Caroline Lambert, also a native of Ohio, who was born October 25, 1825, and who preceded her husband to the Great Beyond, March 18, 1863. To... Read More	John Vernon, a pioneer resident of this vicinity, a resident of the state since 1858, passed away at the family residence in the Fifth ward, this city, at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, at the advanced age of 77 years, 7 months and 16 days. John Vernon was a native of Ohio, having been born in Muskingum County, that state, July 29, 1825. March 28, 1850, he was married to Miss Caroline Lambert, also a native of Ohio, who was born October 25, 1825, and who preceded her husband to the Great Beyond, March 18, 1863. To this union six children were born, four of whom still survive. They are Mrs. Eli Dewey, Lamar, Colorado; Mrs. G.W. Hartman, Bueklin, Kansas; W.R. Vernon, North Platte, Nebraska; Mrs. P.B. Harman of this city. On November 17, 1863 he was again united in marriage at which time Miss Harriet Stearns became his wife. To this union five children were born, one dying in infancy. The surviving members of this family are C.A. Vernon of this city, Mrs. Fowler, Miss Edith Vernon, and J.M. Vernon, all of North Platte. Decedent was known as a man of considerable business ability and a man of moral strength and courage. He was numbered among the best residents of the county, and his loss will be keenly felt, although retired from an active business career. The remains will be in state at the family residence from 10 to 12 o'clock Friday. The casket will not be opened at the church. Funeral from the Marion St. M.E. church at 2:30 p.m. today, services in charge of Pastor Mott Mitchell, assisted by Pastor J. Charles Crawford of the Gospel Tabernacle. Interment at Bass Point Cemetery.
