Description	:	John Axtell died at his home in Indianapolis last Friday morning, and his remains were brought to Tipton Saturday afternoon and were buried on Sunday afternoon. John Axtell was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, June 10. 1835, and died Oct. 19, 1894, age 59 years, 4 mouths and 9 days. He moved to Rush county with his parents in the fall of 1846 and came to Tipton after the death of his father in 1858, and went to Nebraska in 1870, from where he moved to Indianapois in 1871. Read More	John Axtell died at his home in Indianapolis last Friday morning, and his remains were brought to Tipton Saturday afternoon and were buried on Sunday afternoon. John Axtell was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, June 10. 1835, and died Oct. 19, 1894, age 59 years, 4 mouths and 9 days. He moved to Rush county with his parents in the fall of 1846 and came to Tipton after the death of his father in 1858, and went to Nebraska in 1870, from where he moved to Indianapois in 1871. While in Tipton he was in the merchantile business and owned several pieces of property some of which he still retained to his death. Feb. 2, 1862, he was married to Miss Sarah Jane McFarlin, step daughter of John d. Smith, who died July 8, 1867, leaving an only daughter, who survives her father. Two brothers and two sisters survive him, all of whom were at the funeral. John was a successful business man and left a handsome fortune to his daughter. He was a popular man and had scores of friends in Tipton. He was always welcomed to his old home and he was always greeted by those who knew him as a good and valuable citizen. He died in the triumph of the living faith, and his last words were. "I pray God's protecting care to all of you. good-bye to-all." His mind was clear and voice strong to the last moment, when he quietly passed away. He was unusually kind and self sacrificing and good to his mother, brothers and sisters, always solicitous and interested in their welfare. He provided a home for his mother for about thirty years. During bis last illness he often spoke of his father's Christianity and his mother's prayers and Godly influence, which he fondly treasured. His sainted wife's, dying request to meet her in Heaven were precious memories to him, and they are now reunited and at rest with their loved ones- that had gone on before. The funeral was preached at his late residence in Indianapolis He is buried in Fairview cemetery.
