Six years after his birth the parents both died and left their four small sons as orphans. John came to Nebraska and to Fillmore county, March 1, 1887 and has resided in this county ever since. September 17, 1900, he was... Read More	FRIDAY, JOHN W.—John W. Friday, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Friday, was born at Nauvoo, Ill., February 8, 1872. Six years after his birth the parents both died and left their four small sons as orphans. John came to Nebraska and to Fillmore county, March 1, 1887 and has resided in this county ever since. Two brothers, William and Albert, also preceded him in death. He passed on to his Eternal Home early Sunday morning, June 19, 1955, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 11 days. September 17, 1900, he was united in marriage to Eva Churchill, and began home-making on the Churchill homestead, in Chelsea township, where they lived with her parents until 1912, when they moved to Geneva. Mr. and Mrs. Friday were the parents of one daughter Gladys May, born May 15, 1920. The immediate family left to mourn consists of his wife, Eva, who shared nearly 55 years of married life with him, the daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Bryant, and their little daughter Cheryl Lynn, of Compton, Cal., and one brother, George E. Friday of Carroll, Ia. He joined the Geneva First Methodist Episcopal church (as it was known then), June 12, 1912, under the ministry of rev. C. L. Meyers, and he was an interested and active member until failing health confined him to his home. His life in Geneva was quiet, neighborly and consistent. He loved his church, his neighborhood and his home. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Geneva, June 22 at 2 o'clock. Dr. F. E. Pfoutz gave the memorial tribute. Mrs. H. A. Rosenau sang "Going Down the Valley" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Robert B. Waring accompanied at the organ and provided the background of appropriate and beautiful organ music. The pallbearers were C. B. Allgood, Vaughn Fulton, Frank Hrubesky, Gilbert Nixon, Harry Goold and Ralph Reemts. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 30th, 1955 page 9.
