Mr. Graybill, age 76, also a pioneer of Harvey county, was among the many old friends called upon to say a few words, and just completed reciting the poem, "Out to Old Aunt Mary's" by James Whitcomb Riley. It was while Mr. Lehman was responding that Mr. Graybill quietly breathed his last. Dr. E. L. kalbleish, who was amoong the guests present, rushed to his side but death was instant and the many friends departed immediately for their homes, saddened by the death of a good friend. Mr. Graybill, who came to Kansas in 1877 with his parents, was the last of a family of ten children. He spent his early boyhood on a farm near Walton and in 1892 founded the firm of the Graybill Brothers shoe store and for many years was listed among the leading business men of the city. He was married to Bessie mathis of this city who with their daughter Gladys (Mrs. John Dotson of Wichita), Kermit of Los Angeles and Shelley of Topeka constitute the broken family circle. He had the sorrow of seeing his brothers and sisters pass on one by one including his brothers, Dr. J. W. Graybill, Sam, Amos and Charles. Two of his sisters, Mrs. J. W. Inghram and Mrs. J. D. Nicholson made their homes in Newton and the family gatherings were stressed throughout the years, those remaining doing everything possible to be of comfort to the bereft.
