Parker died at 6 o'clock this morning at his home at 720 Bank street. He had been in poor health for some months. He and Mrs. Parker, who had been long time residents of Stratford, moved to Webster City six years ago. The wife and two sons, John, of Des Moines, and Fred, of this city survive. There are also two grandchildren. Poorly Since Fall. Mr. Parker had been poorly since last fall and for some weeks had been confined to his bed. Realizing that he probably did not have long to live, he wrote his own obituary only a few days ago, requesting that it be given out for publication after his death. Obituary It follows just as he wrote it: John W. Parker was born in Princeton, Mo., Nov. 1, 1848. My father's name was Hiram Parker. My mother's name was Narcisses Parker. My sisters' names were Mary and Arnetta ["Nettie"]. Father died when we were little and mother married again to a man named Richard Thompson. I had two half brothers, Willie and George Thompson, and one half sister, Clematine. When mother died the children all went to stay with their people, the Thompsons, and made their home in Ray county, and I worked around Trenton, Mo. I was about 20 years old then. I came to Iowa with a family who were visiting at Trenton. They told me that hunting and fishing was good in Iowa. It was 1878 when I came to Boone, Iowa, and lived there and at Ridgeport. We were married July 4th, 1882, at Stratford. I tried to locate my folks but not till I had been in Iowa about ten years, but they had all left and I couldn't locate them.
