Smith, one of the oldest and best respected residents of Pleasant township, passed from among the living. The deceased was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1822. He was reared on a farm and followed that pursuit the greater part of his life. He was married Dec. 24, 1846, and in 1856 he came to Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, where he resided until his demise. Smith, one of the oldest and best respected residents of Pleasant township, passed from among the living. The deceased was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1822. He was reared on a farm and followed that pursuit the greater part of his life. He was married Dec. 24, 1846, and in 1856 he came to Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, where he resided until his demise. While Mr. Smith had not been in good health, it was not expected that death would come so soon. The immediate cause of death was an apoplectic stroke which accomplished its work in less than two hours. The funeral service occurred on the 17th inst. and was conducted by Rev. Carl Brown of Russell, who addressed the people from the words "Man goeth to his long home" after which a large concourse of relatives and friends witnessed the interment at the Zion cemetery.
