Description	:	John Walter Roby was born in Luddington (sic), Mich., on November 14, 1874, and died at Nelson, Nebr., June 23rd; aged 47 years, 8 months and 9 days. His parents were Wm. B. Roby & Sarah Marshall. They moved to Red Cloud in 1878 and at that place John Walter was educated in the public schools, afterwards engaging in general store work, railroading on the Colorado Midland for five years, and again in mercantile business. Read More	John Walter Roby was born in Luddington (sic), Mich., on November 14, 1874, and died at Nelson, Nebr., June 23rd; aged 47 years, 8 months and 9 days. His parents were Wm. B. Roby & Sarah Marshall. They moved to Red Cloud in 1878 and at that place John Walter was educated in the public schools, afterwards engaging in general store work, railroading on the Colorado Midland for five years, and again in mercantile business. On October 14, 1900, he married Gertrude May Bohrer and together with their two oldest daughters they moved to Nelson in 1906, where he was in business up to his death. He was baptized into the Episcopal church at the age of four years, at the court house in Red Cloud, and Confirmed June 16, 1922, at Nelson. He was a Mason, an Oddfellow, and also a member of the A.O.U.W. He was coroner of Nuckolls county for several years, but was handicapped in his public work for both town and county by his precarious health. His unselfish giving of himself in the work of his profession as an undertaker was the wonder of his friends and patrons. No circumstances was too difficult, no hour of the day or night so unusual but that Mr. Roby would go and sympathetically, carefully and reverently prepare the one who had departed for burial, and comfort the bereaved. He leaves to mourn their loss a devoted wife, three daughters, Velma Adelene; Minnie Edith and Jessie Wallene; and two sons, John Walter, Jr., and Wm. James B.; two brothers, Marshall W. of Sedro Wooley, Washington, and Geo. Arthur of Superior; and one sister, Helen S. Roby of Omaha; and a host of friends. The funeral service was conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. Samuel Hardman of Red Cloud, who was assisted by Rev. V.E. Shirley. A very large number of friends gathered at this service in respect to a devoted neighbor and friend. Burial was made in Nelson cemetery (sic).
