Description	:	Son of Alex. and Charlotte Russell. John Walter Russell and Adaline Barr were married April 16, 1895 at Dorchester, Ontario. John's profession at this time was Presbyterian Minister. The family moved to Vancouver Island for a time, later coming to Olds, Alberta about 1903, and settling at Camrose in 1907. John Russell Passes Sunday at 95 Years Pioneer Camrose educator, and beloved throughout the community for many years, John Walter Russell passed away in London, Ontario, on Sunday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Blezzard. He was 95 years old. Born on a farm just outside London, Mr. Russell moved to Camrose in 1907, after a period of teaching at Olds. He came here as principal of the first school, and continued in Camrose until he was appointed school inspector in High River on January 1st, 1914. After only a few years in the south, he moved back to Camrose as school inspector, and continued in that post until his retirement. Although retirement annoyed him, he continued to lived in Camrose, except for the short time in Calgary with his daughter, until failing health in 1949 forced him to move to London, where he lived with his daughter until his death. Mr. Russell established the warmest personal relationships with anyone with whom he came in contact, and was held in the highest esteem throughout the entire community. He was an enthusiastic and active worker on behalf of the community, and served on numerous committees and boards throughout his years here. In addition to acting as a Town Councillor for some time, he was head of the cemetery board for many years. A devoted member of the United Church, he was made an honorary life member of the Board of Session of the church here several years ago. A long time member of the Masonic Lodge, he rose to the rank of 32nd degree Mason, and will be accorded full Masonic ceremonies at the graveside, as well as at the church. Keenly interested in horticulture, Mr. Russell was known for his prize-winning dahlias and gladiolas. He was also a member of the local horticultural board. He was also interested in sporting circles, and for years was an enthusiastic curler. In 1935 he was made a life member of the local club. Mr. Russell leaves a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Blezzard of London, Ontario, and two sons, George and Albert, both of Calgary. He was predeceased by his wife, another daughter, Gwen (Mrs. C. H. Robinson), and a son Griffiths, killed overseas in World War I. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from Camrose United Church.
