Mr. McCaulley was born Nov. 10, 1902, in Davis Coun ty, Iowa, the son of John Warden and Sarah Effie Wilkinson McCaulley Sr. He moved to a farm in Anthony, Kan., with his parents in 1904 where he lived until 1915 when he moved to Ilff and later to Colorado Springs where he engaged in the lumber warehouse business. He returned to Logan County when he purchased the Padroni Lumber Company which he operated until 1954. Mr. McCaulley was elected Logan County Treasurer in 1954 and served in that capacity until he retired in 1976, due to ill health. During his tenure, the Logan County Republican official logged a remarkable record in tax collection for Logan County, hitting as high as 99.91 percent and was respected by his peers as well as his political opponents, fellow employees, office holders and the general public. During election nights, Mr. Mccaulley was the official "tally counter" and during the "paper ballot years" worked throughout the night and into the early morning hours tabulating the final voting count for county elections. Outside his official duties, Mr. McCaulley was an avid golfer, winning several honors as a competitor on the old Columbine Golf Club links, and later was one to be reckoned with during Sterling County Club tournaments. Mr. McCaulley married Glenna Irelan, Feb. 7, 1938 in Sterling. He was a Past Master of Sterling Lodge No. 54, A.F.&A.M., past Excellent High Priest of Sterling Chapter No. 47, Royal Arch Masons; past Illustrious Master of Sterling Council No. 19, Royal and Select Masons; past Commander of Sterling Cormnandery No. 35, Knights Templar and a member of Pikes Peak Priory, 21, Knight York Court Club and an honorary life member of the Sterling Country Club. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Glenna McCaulley of 324 Beattie; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Johnsey of Cody, Wyo., and Mrs. Sarah Tait of Sterling; a son, Donald Irelan of Thermopolis, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs. May Jankovsky of Kit Carson and Mrs. Ruth Roberts of Denver; 11 grand children and nine great- grandchildren. Chancy-Walters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
