Description	:	The son of Jacob Welty (1758- 1834) and Anna Maria Hoover, 1759-1821) Grandson of John Welty and Eve Coghnower. Anna is the daughter of John Hoover and Mary Watson, both families were Mennonites. Married Susanna Holm on Feb 11, 1804 - no children He was a prosperous farmer & distiller, owner of several properties. They lived on a farm near Welty church. Stouffer Mennonite Meeting House was built on border of Welty and Stouffer farms and he served as a preacher there. Married Susanna Holm on Feb 11, 1804 - no children He was a prosperous farmer & distiller, owner of several properties. They lived on a farm near Welty church. Stouffer Mennonite Meeting House was built on border of Welty and Stouffer farms and he served as a preacher there. From age 32 he was active in community affairs: served on committees dealing with local transportation (National Road, C&O Canal, B&O Railroad); served on Board of Directors of Hagerstown Bank and as a director of Washington County Seventh School District; helped neighbors settle estates. In 1834 he was elected to the House of Delegates of the MD State Assembly and served one term. About this time he left the Mennonite Church. In 1836 he bought land and built a stone Meeting House in which three denominations met. The building had folding doors so that it could be separated into two rooms. The smaller one was used as a subscription school until a brick school was erected north of the meeting house in 1838. In 1838 he and Susanna were baptized as German Baptist Brethren. In his will he deeded the meeting house and property to them. Over time the GBB church split,with the meeting house becoming Church of the Brethren.
