Description	:	John Wesley Harris John Wesley "Big John" Harris, age 71, of Marion, died on Saturday, April 15, 2000 at The McDowell Hospital. Born in McDowell County to the late Joshua Hall and Mamie Lawing Harris. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and from being a sawmill operator. Longtime member, and served on the Board of Directors, of the McDowell County Farm Bureau. A member of McDowell County Cattleman's Association. He has also been an active farmer in the area. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Stott Harris of the home; two daughters, Barbara Ann Rymer and Jane Harris, both of Marion;... Survivors include his wife, Barbara Stott Harris of the home; two daughters, Barbara Ann Rymer and Jane Harris, both of Marion; a son, Charles G. Harris of Marion; three sisters, Beatrice Hemphill of Brevard, NC, Margaret Zuver of Greenwood, SC and Charlotte McKinney of Marion; a brother, Walter Harris of Black Mountain; 5 grandchildren, Steve and Stephanie Rymer, Kasey Branch, Levi Harris, and John Paul Harris, Jr. He is preceded in death by a son, John Paul Harris. The funeral service was held at 11:30 am on Thursday, April 18, 2000 at Montford Cove Baptist Church. Revs. Bobby Gettys, Curtis Gilstrap and Derrell Pruett officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2000 at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Montford Cove Baptist Church Route 1 Union Mills, NC 28167.
