He had been ill for about 10 years. Mr. Clark was born January 1, 1883, at La Veta, a son of William C. and Mattie Gribble Clark [Elece Lucinda Gribble-Clark], and had lived in the Grand Junction area for 35 years. He married Minnie Fennell on January 3, 1912 at Walsenburg, and the family lived in Denver and in California for a total of about six years before coming to the Grand Junction area. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Jack W. Clark, and James M. Clark, Grand Junction, and Robert E. Clark, Vancouver, Wash.; also four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Patterson, Fruita; Mrs. Russell (Audrey) Grant, Grand Junction; Mrs. Gertrude Mercer, Grand Junction, and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Grant, Grand Junction. Another daughter, Lois, preceded him in death. Also surviving are a brother, Lester Clark, Denver and 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Martin's Chapel by the Rev. C. W. Baldwin. Burial will be in Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Grand Junction Daily Sentinel - September 1957 - John Wesley Clark, age 73, of Redlands, resident of Grand Junction for 35 years, passed away at Lincoln Park Hospital Tuesday evening. Survived by his wife, 3 sons, 4 daughters, 1 brother, 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Martin's Chapel. Burial in the Orchard Mesa Cemetery. [Editors note: John was born Jan. 1, 1883 and died Sept. 24, 1957. Mattie Gribble was his grandmother who helped to raise him after the premature death of his mother, Elece Lucinda Gribble-Clark
